Evaluation of the Epistemic Depths for Resolving the Muddy Children Puzzle
نویسنده
چکیده
We evaluate the 3 child muddy children puzzle using the epistemic logic of shallow depths GLEF . We give a resolution to the puzzle that involves only shallow depths of interpersonal inferences and does not use common knowledge. This resolution makes the necessary beliefs, interpersonal inferences, and interpretations of inactions explicit. We also show that our resolution is a minimal one in a certain sense. Tool support for reasoning in display calculi
We present a tool for reasoning in and about propositional sequent calculi. One aim is to support reasoning in calculi that contain a hundred rules or more, so that even relatively small pen and paper derivations become tedious and error prone. As an example, we implement the display calculus D.EAK of dynamic epistemic logic. Second, we provide embeddings of the calculus in the theorem prover I...
متن کاملVerification of Multi-agent Systems with Imperfect Information and Public Actions
We analyse the verification problem for synchronous, perfect recall multi-agent systems with imperfect information against a specification language that includes strategic and epistemic operators. While the verification problem is undecidable, we show that if the agents’ actions are public, then verification is 2exptime-complete. To illustrate the formal framework we consider two epistemic and ...
متن کاملBuilding Epistemic Logic from Observations and Public Announcements
We study an epistemic logic where knowledge is built from what the agents observe (including higher-order visibility) and what the agents learn from public announcements. This fixes two main drawbacks of previous observability-based approaches where who sees what is common knowledge and where the epistemic operators distribute over disjunction. The latter forbids the modeling of most of the cla...
متن کاملEpistemic Actions as Resources
We provide algebraic semantics together with a sound and complete sequent calculus for information update due to epistemic actions. This semantics is flexible enough to accommodate incomplete as well as wrong information e.g. due to secrecy and deceit, as well as nested knowledge. We give a purely algebraic treatment of the muddy children puzzle, which moreover extends to situations where the c...

We provide algebraic semantics together with a sound and complete sequent calculus for information update due to epistemic actions. This semantics is flexible enough to accommodate incomplete as well as wrong information e.g. deceit. We give a purely algebraic treatment of the muddy children puzzle, which moreover extends to situations where the children are allowed to lie and cheat. Epistemic ...
